TalkingRock Report post Posted February 1, 2011 I have been a member of this site since May of 09, I have read and watched some great instructions and how to's. I am now retired and ready to make an investment in leather crafting to the best ability. Professionaly I am an engineer and my hoby has included wood working over the years. When I purchased tools , always got the best I could afford and some are over 40 years old and still working. Now I am ready to start in leather as a hoby is there anyone who can give me a list of what tools and brands and accessories I need to get started. I am a sass shooter and want to start with cowboy gear. I purchased a Tandy starter kit, most of the tools are not very good quality. I love old tools and new ones if anyone has some suggestion, I am looking for a good investment and bang for my money. What I want is to buy once and not have to upgrade later. Great site and realy enjoy. Thanks, TalkingRock
Deb59 Report post Posted February 1, 2011 Welcome! There are a number of tool makers out there, some of which are members of this forum. I have an assortment. I have some of the older Tandy tools 60's & 70's, a few Hide Crafter Pro Tools, but I have been upgrading over the years and have aquired some Barry King, Gomph Hackbarth, and HIdes to Art., and a couple of Jeremiah Watt toos. I have seen ,but not used WayneJueschke's & Chuck Smith Tools. As far as Swivel Knifes go, Many of the above mentioned tool makers have swivel knives, but I am partial to the Leather Wrangler myself. I know there are more tool makers out there, but these are the ones I can think of at the moment. Many advertise in the Leather Crafter and Saddler's Journal. It is a great Leatherworker publication if you are not already familiar with it. Good Luck and will look forward to seeing some of your work. - Deb
