Melanie Wilfong Report post Posted February 11, 2011 For practice braids, I traced a circle and spiral cut the string with shears. Is a wing divider just like a compass, making a circle only? Or, does a wing divider draw the spiral so you get accurate string width? I just eye-balled my 1/8" string from tracing a salad plate on a leather scrap. cre8vmynd Report post Posted February 11, 2011 I would think in order to use a pair of dividers to mark a spiral would be very challenging. You would have to be able to slowly bring the dividers together while at the same time turning in a circular motion, pivoting on one point. Alternatively, I think you can pick up a strap and lace cutter for a reasonable price. Casey

Tandy sells pretty decent strap and lace cutters. To me, the wing divider is most useful for measurements and setting space distance.
