Alan83 Report post Posted March 18, 2011 Hi to all, I'm totally new to leather crafting or tooling and am planning on a project. First of all, the material I'm using will be upholstery leather and it's 3.5 oz. I'm wondering if I'm able to skive down the thickness of it. Additionally, I need to mold it into a shape but am not sure whether this works on an upholstery leather. Hope that you guys can give me some advice and thanks in advance! bison Report post Posted March 18, 2011 Hi Alan, I'm pretty sure that skiving won't be a problem...should be able to do it with a nice sharp tool. The molding will be a problem more than likely. To mold it you will need to wet it, then form it. Upholstery leather has been dyed and finished so it is unlikely that it will mold well. There are others on the forum that have much more experience with molding than I do, but I'd suggest using a veg tanned leather to mold, then dye and finish it yourself. Good luck.
