hiya all,

new to the forum, looks awesome- read heaps already!

need some advice on stitching cheyenne rolls, more specifically making the stitch holes-i am ok with the stitching process.

1.i realise a good quality awl is used, but which one is the best.

2.how does one ensure that the stitches come out even and in a straight line underneath- thats really important to me!!

thanks in advance

I get my awls from Sheridan outfitters. ( douglas tools)

I make a stitch groove on the under side so that I have a very specific target for the awl to come out....then it is all about aim . This will take practice.......usually more than one.

I see you build boats also....My spare time project is a 19' strip built westpointer . It kind of clutters up the tree shop. :)
