Members Al Beatty Posted April 7, 2011 Members Report Posted April 7, 2011 Hi Group, I'm a new member from Boise, Idaho. Many years ago I learned to braid rawhide (and leather/cord) from a ranch cowboy I worked with; his name was Slim Harper. Normal ranch work also included some leather work so I picked up some of that along the way. I also loved to fly fish the waters on and near the ranches I worked and soon had to decide which interest to persue. I chose fly fishing and a job in corporate America (so I could afford to fly fish). Now years later I'm retired, running a fly-fishing business and incorporating leather work/braiding into that business. I discovered this forum yesterday with the help of a friend and look forward to learning from you all. In return if any of you need help with fly fishing, fly tying or photography (product, advertising & macro)let me know and I'll try to repay you all with some my limited skills. Take care & ... Contributing Member TwinOaks Posted April 8, 2011 Contributing Member Report Posted April 8, 2011 Welcome to Leatherworker.net! There's good news and bad news: The good news is that with leather work you won't be tempted by the annual new model of fly rod, the bad news is this addiction hobby can be just as expensive!!! The other good news: in my few years of leather working, I've never had a hide break a tippet. Pull up a chair to the braiding table and stay a while, we're glad to have you. Quote
Members Al Beatty Posted April 8, 2011 Author Members Report Posted April 8, 2011 Hi Mike, Thank you for the welcome and the fact you know what a "tippet" is tells me you may have a passing aquaintance with a fly rod. I'm really excited about finding this site and look forward to learning from the members here. Take care & ... Tight Lines - Al Beatty www.btsflyfishing.com Quote
Members Nod4Eight Posted April 20, 2011 Members Report Posted April 20, 2011 Welcome Al. We're dang near neighbors and I'm fairly new to the site as well. I've learned a lot so far and spend most of my time in the braiding forum. I also enjoy fly fishing altough my schedule hasn't allowed me to pick up a rod in a while. We're blessed with some great waters nearby though. Welcome again, maybe we can get together for an afternoon of braiding sometime - I'm sure there's a lot I could learn from you. Quote
