Members Shooter McGavin Posted April 21, 2011 Members Report Posted April 21, 2011 I've had my Tippmann Boss for a couple of months yet, have sewn a couple belts, and lots of holsters. I wish I would have installed a stitch counter when it showed up. Anyway, I ordered an extra pack of needles as well. Havent changed one yet. Just wondering how I can tell when its time for a new needle, and also what kind of life everyone typically gets from theirs. Thanks! Quote Zlogonje Gunleathers

dirtclod Posted April 21, 2011 Report Posted April 21, 2011 Needles will wear out. The point will get dull / rounded. It just depends on the hardness, thickness of the leather the amount of sewing you do or repair work. I have had to replace a brand new needle after sewing one set of skirts off a dirty saddle. Sometimes you will notice a different sound when sewing. You can take the needle out and check it to if you think it might be dull or getting dull. I have sharpened them on a stone a few times and use the stone to know off a burr that you will get sometimes. Quote I'm old enough to know that i don't know everything.
