Black Ram Report post Posted May 25, 2011 Hi all! Im making some cattle rawhide right now. I'm thinking about selling it (if it turns out to be of acceptable quality). What I would like to know is when rawhide is being sold, is it sold de-grained or is the grain left on? What do places like Tandy's and other leather dealers prefer to do? Thanks! Nod4Eight Report post Posted June 9, 2011 Just saw this. Leave the grain on, that's what gives rawhide its strength. Flesh it really good, dehair it (there are a few ways to do this, some better that others but it depends on what you intend to do with the rawhide) and then stretch it in a frame to dry it. When its being used/cut is when it is split to a consistant thickness by taking material off the flesh side. Good luck!
