Another Vinegroon Question

Recommended Posts

I have made a batch of vinegroon and have been experimenting a bit with satisfactory results. I am still learning the "strength" so I can control the color but now I want to do a holster from a Tandy kit. My concern is that the holster has a snap on it and I dont want to ruin the hardware. Any ideas on how to protect the rivet? A prior sample rusted pretty good. I typically dip the item in to the vinegroon.

Dip before assembly. Let dry, assemble as usual.

Well, the kit comes with the snap already installed... I wonder if there is some sort of coating (or patch) I can apply to the snap to protect it that will come off after.

JUst clean the snap off good with a bit of baking soda and water and then rinse with clean plain water - you should have no troubles at all - the Vinegar black when made right (it dissolves as much iron as possible before using) will be no more acidic than the leather itself...
