Members The Farmers Daughter Posted June 18, 2011 Members Report Posted June 18, 2011 This saddle is a new purchase. I would like opinions on it. It has a rawhide or bullhide (how do you tell) wrapped tree and has beautiful thick leather. Weighs about 30 lbs. No maker marks anywhere. Brass hardware. I'm kinda taken with it myself. Moderator bruce johnson Posted June 19, 2011 Moderator Report Posted June 19, 2011 If you like it, I'd check out to the riggings and leathers to make sure the attachments are solid and leather is good underneath. Check for nails in the wool, stuff like that. With no makers stamp, not much else to say I guess. It is a kind of retro style with that horn, cantle, and seat jockey shape. If you like how it rides and your horse gets along under it - great. Members The Farmers Daughter Posted June 19, 2011 Author Members Report Posted June 19, 2011 Thanks Bruce, its an old one. The latigo holder is marked 3 9 63 with the number 2 above the slot. I am not certain but guessing that means it was built in 1963...? Sheep wool panels and many nice details.
