Not really sure what to call it. so here is a Pic i came across, i have com across other holsters to that seem to have an excessive amount of leather that doesnt appear to me to have much of a function, it only appears on IWB.. im new to IWB as I live in Las Vegas and primarily Open carry.

Any help in understanding would be apprecaited. the extre leather to the left of where the gun rests. Not sure what to call it.

Not sure if it has a name. I suppose it helps A) spread the contact patch a bit and B) helps stabilize the holster due to the increased surface contact.

It serves a very important function in that when it is inside the pants, your pants will pull that leather "wing" into your body and in doing so pulls the butt of the gun in closer. Ideal if you wear your holster between 3:00 and 5:00, not so desirable if you carry appendix.Most of my IWB holsters have some type of wing on the lower rear part.
