Leather Stamps On Wood Block Made On Homemade Cnc

Recommended Posts

Hello all I have had the idea to do this for some time now but everything else seemed to get in the way (job hunting, taking care of 9 year old daughter and 4 year old grandkid, remodelling studying to become engineer etc does get in the way) but yesterday morning I had an hour or so of free time and set this up on the homemade cnc machine. I cut it out of pine because thats what I found laying about. Its 3.5 by 5.5 and I decided to just hit it with hammer and it cracked along the grain in the middle. So I backed it up with a couple of blocks and clamped it in a c-clamp. The results were not perfect but I think with a couple of modifications it could be a very useful arrangement. I think I need to either build me or find me a good press now.

I have also found an epoxy made by smooth on that is for metal stamping I may try cutting negatives of the stamps and casting them in the epoxy. At the very least I will be using hardwoods for further experimenting. If anyone needs anything made let me know or email me at rabidrat1967@yahoo.com . post-20394-043245800 1309956905_thumb.jp post-20394-058997300 1309956929_thumb.jppost-20394-005331000 1309956921_thumb.jp

Forgot to mention I use Vcarve and a few other softwares and can do just about any lineart type drawings if they are clean and not too busy. Here is the picture I used for thispost-20394-083633700 1309957737_thumb.jp

Cyber I have not used cuttlefish bone but I have used the machine to cut soapstone and have used it to cast aluminum., I'll have to give some research to cuttlefish bone.

Studio I would say build your own I can help ya through it. If I can do it it can be done. I'll post some pics when I find where I put em but here's a youtube link to it in action I would turn soun way down before starting vid:

Here's another one I made from a stamp from the machine.
