Hello.

I'm planning to make myself a small pipe tobacco pouch, and I can't decide what kind of materials to use.

I'm worried that if I don't use some kind of lining, the leather will cause the tobacco to taste funny, and also may not be airtight enough to keep the tobacco from drying out quickly.

Plastic, on the other hand, isn't too durable.

Any ideas, suggestions?

Mmmmmm! I love the smell of good pipe tobacco. Funny that I can't stand the smell of cigs or cigars, though.

Can you make it so that a ziplock bag can be used as a liner? That way you can just toss the ziplock when it gets worn, or you change flavors?

In one of the Al Stohlman Casemaking books he shows how to make a dop kit lined with a waterproof liner. Although I think that if you make the pouch out of deer skin and don't keep more than you need for a couple of days, drying out shouldn't be much of a problem.
