Members Impyman18 Posted September 1, 2011 Members Report Posted September 1, 2011 I took my press by the machine shop last friday and got it back on Monday. I got the idea from another member and I'm happy I took the plunge to get it machined. I had the shank drilled to allow punches, setters, and makers marks. He turned down my larger punch and made bushings for a setter and the smaller punch, sized them all up, and gave me a steel plate. It set me back $80 but think it was well worth it. Only bad thing was he forgot to add an attachment rod to the stamp. I'll have to swing by after the gun show this weekend to have it added. Other than that small detail I'm super stoked with the way it all turned out. Quote
King's X Posted September 1, 2011 Report Posted September 1, 2011 Stick a lacing or diamond tip chisel in there and you'll have a manual stitch maker. Nice job! Quote Greetings from Central Texas! The Grain Side Up blog #TheGrainSideUp
Members BIGGUNDOCTOR Posted September 1, 2011 Members Report Posted September 1, 2011 I still think a better way would be to machine a Vee in the front of the ram, and make a clamp to hold the punch, stamp, etc. With the Vee it doesn't matter what the diameter is, it will hold it, so no bushings are needed. I use Vee blocks at work for machining parts fairly regularly. Quote You laugh at me because I am different. I laugh at you because you are all the same.
