Contrast Effects Report post Posted September 5, 2011 Hey there! I just happened upon this wealth of knowledge, inspiration, and community called leatherworker. I am stoked!!! I look forward to getting to getting to know some of you a little better...My name's Connie Smash and I run a little (mostly) sewing studio in Asheville. Generally I travel and hawk my wares at indie craft shows, bike rallies, and music festivals, but I have a few stores that have picked up my work. Used to be I only sewed fabric and vinyl, but a couple years ago I was given some leather furniture swatches, and it was on! I never imagined I would be so inspired by leather. I am not a tooler, although there's a part of me that wants to try my hand at it. Unfortunately, it seems as though the necessary tools would be a little expensive for 'trying my hand.' Any suggestions? More, I would love to learn the fine art of molding leather...yum. So, basically, I'm a sewer of leather, although I've recently gotten into painting, printing, and stenciling, too. I love color, texture, and simplicity of line. Here's some of my work (if I can figure this forum deal out...) Inserting image didn't work so well for me, so I guess I'll try attaching images? I do more things too: handbags, bootstraps, bound leather journals, holsters, jewelry...I like to follow where inspiration takes me. Photos are kind of hard to come by though, because I generally make a TON of stuff immediately before a show and sell it off. Good for me! Bad for photos. Contrast Effects Report post Posted September 5, 2011 I also meant to say that every single bit of leather I use is salvaged in some way...furniture swatches, skinned couches and junk cars, some clothes (although i don't like using things that are still usable). Also, it's all one of a kind.

He puts on a class on what ever you want him to show you about leather. I enjoyed the class alot. I am also wanting to get into the sewing of leather because Im trying to get into repairing baseball gloves so you maybe could give me some pointer. I from Spartanburg SC so not that far away. Let me know if you are interrested in that class and i can give you Chucks number. Oh yea your peices look good.

I would definitely be interested in a class, although my reality is free time is fleeting. So far as pointers on sewing leather go especially for something like baseball gloves, I am definitely NOT your girl. I make what i can with what I've got...meaning I use a machine that is not made for leather and force it to bend to my will. Or not. I assume with glove repair, you're looking at needing a leather machine and/or hand stitching. neither of which I use. well, I hand stitch, but not often if I can help it. But I would love to get chuck's number! thanks again!
