28ist Report post Posted November 2, 2011 Working on my next project and I'm thinking about trying my first dip dye attempt. Should I cut all my pieces to size and then dip or should I dye then cut? Is there a proper way to do this or is it more of a preference thing?
BillB Report post Posted November 3, 2011 It depends on the dye, the leather and the project. In some cases the dip dye process will cause the leather to change shape. This will, of course, cause problems during assembly when the alignment of the various pieces is important. I will, in some cases, due a rough cut of the pieces, dip dye, and then do a final cut. 28ist Report post Posted November 3, 2011 Thanks Bill. The biggest thing I was afraid of was having my pieces shrink if I cut them to size first. I'll use your rough cut/final cut suggestion.
