I recently decided to give holster making a try and found this forum when I did a search on how to better finish the edges of leather projects. It looks like there are a lot of talented people here that are willing to share the knowledge they have aquired over many years - Thank you all for doing so!

Here is a picture of the first three holsters that I've made. Any constructive criticism and words of wisom are appreciated. The two top ones are all leather (I'm a little disappointed in the top left one - the belt slots are not where I originally intended on putting them), while the one at the bottom is one I made using leather for the backing and then a kydex shell covered in leather for the front.

Welcome. I really like the finish on that bottom one. Have you seen Al Stohlman's series on case making? It's in 3 volumes, volume 1 goes over a lot of molding stuff like that. I haven't gotten to 2 or 3 yet, but I'm pretty sure there's some other specific holster parts in there as well. So far it's been an invaluable resource to me.

Did you vacuum form the Kydex?

I am just starting to experiment with Kydex. My vacuum table is nearly finished and a press form is in the works. I will post pictures and results as soon as I have them.

I haven't seen it, but I will check it out, thanks.

Yes, it was vacuum formed (I used a friend's vacuum table to do it). I don't have a vacuum table, but I think one will be in the works if I decide to do much kydex work.
