Members rccolt45 Posted March 28, 2012 Members Report Posted March 28, 2012 I called weaver today to order one of their strop boards to sharpen edges and they wouldn't sell it to me because I am not a retail buisness. They also couldn't tell me where to buy one. If you have one could you advise where to get it? Quote
Members Jbarv Bulls Posted March 28, 2012 Members Report Posted March 28, 2012 Your best bet would be to make one yourself. Not much to them. Just a block of wood with 4 pieces of leather glued into 4 grooves. I ended up talking mine apart and putting thinner leather in one groove for smaller edgers. Quote
Members rccolt45 Posted March 28, 2012 Author Members Report Posted March 28, 2012 ok cool, what did you do to make the groves a router and how did you know how big to make the groves? rob Quote
Members Knipper Posted March 28, 2012 Members Report Posted March 28, 2012 The folks at Sheridan leather sell them, and they're good ones! I bought one myself at the last show. Horsehide and green chrome compound...can't go wrong with that combination. dirtclod Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 Rob if you have a table saw or know somebody that does get a piece of 2x6 and run it though the saw to cut the groves. Quote
Members Jbarv Bulls Posted March 28, 2012 Members Report Posted March 28, 2012 I used 3-4 oz leather, the groove was there already, so I just filled the gap with contact cement. It was cut about as wide as 9-10oz leather. Looks like it had been routed, but I imagine a table or skill saw would do the same thing pretty easy. Quote
