Members usmc0341 Posted May 9, 2012 Members Report Posted May 9, 2012 Okay folks, I'm drawing a complete blank on trying to come up with a workable holster design for one of these. The gun is a Leinad MR 45/410 which is a newer version of the pepperbox. I'm basically trying to make a holster for a beer can because that's about how big it is. So I'm wondering what ideas some of you guys with more experience can come up with. Here is apicture of the gun. Quote
Members camano ridge Posted May 9, 2012 Members Report Posted May 9, 2012 (edited) I don't know if you are trying to make a period type pholster or are trying to make a modern carry holster. Here is a site if you scroll through has several period style pepperbox holsters (also interesting info on pepperbox's. http://asoac.org/bulletins/88_butterfield_pepperbox.pdf http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=6&f=14&t=180113 This might also give you an idea, it is for a muzzle loader however the general principal may work for a pepper box. Hope these get your creative juices flowing. Scott Edited May 9, 2012 by camano ridge Quote
Members usmc0341 Posted May 9, 2012 Author Members Report Posted May 9, 2012 I'm not looking for a period style holster as he just want this for carrying when hes fishing and camping. I'm thinking pancake holster but there is no trigger guard or anything to stitch around to keep the gun from just going right through (if that makes sense). Thanks for the links sir, I'll look through them. Quote
Members chiefjason Posted May 10, 2012 Members Report Posted May 10, 2012 You might want to think more like a knife sheath than a gun holster. Maybe something with a closed bottom and cover that snaps over. Similar to some of the nylon cases for knives, flashlights, radios, phones, etc. That's an interesting one for sure. And in reality, the shape is closer to a knife or flashlight than a gun. Quote
Members BEARDOG Posted May 10, 2012 Members Report Posted May 10, 2012 Instead of a pancake... I would do a field type holster(similar to the nice crossdraw revolver holster you just made) /or an avenger type if you want two belt attachment points...So that it wraps around that big round shape. I think a pancake would sit away from the body so far and also be hard to draw as the gun gets "pinched" as the two sides are pulled down to the body by the belt. I would mold around the bottom of the muzzles so that it would give the gun a stop,Put a few stitches there so that it could not get pushed through. But leave a nice size opening so any water or debris can fall out easily. The trigger area hummm???, I think a open curved front / covered back like a single action western rig would work. Or if you want to cover it I would make a wood spacer that would sit in front of the exposed trigger and use it to mold/stitch a little larger "trigger guard" area. I would put a retention strap on it, just a simple one that goes over the back of the hammer and snaps to the front. That's what I would try anyway.... It will be interesting to see what you come up with. Good luck! Quote
Members usmc0341 Posted May 10, 2012 Author Members Report Posted May 10, 2012 Good points Beardog. I was thinking maybe an avenger style holster instead of a pancake. I'm gonna play around with some patterns tonight. Quote
Members marine mp Posted May 10, 2012 Members Report Posted May 10, 2012 USMC0341, Use the search at the top, right of the page and type in "leinad". Yours and my post will come up. Mine is titled..."ever see one of these". It is a "over-under" type thats flatter than the pepperbox, but it is made in the pancake style. Take care and thanks for your service. Semper-fi Mike Quote

Members Tac Posted May 19, 2012 Members Report Posted May 19, 2012 I gotta ask... has nothing to do with the holster, which I think looks very practical, considering the gun... Have you actually pulled the trigger on that beast yet? I am wondering what the recoil, short, round grip frame and spur hammer would feel like with a "000-buck" load of .410.... Or a 255 grain .45 Colt load... either one brings to mind images of pain and less than accurate shot placement... But, I might be wrong... Wouldn't be the first time... -Tac Quote
Contributing Member TwinOaks Posted May 19, 2012 Contributing Member Report Posted May 19, 2012 Send it back to the factory......they forgot to put the barrel on it!!!!!! You could use any of the Judge holster patterns and just shorten up due to the lack of barrel. Quote
