Hello

I am new to this forum and hobby, but i have fallen in love with the idea of doing things from leather by myself.

However before i start i would like to recive some basic information about leather kinds, which leather can and which cannot be used for punching, does it depand on its thickness, animal its made from?

Or can i just take any natural leather and start to do my own work?

Thanks for your replays!

For tooling and stamping, you will want to use vegetable tanned hide, also known as veg-tan. This is most commonly from cow, but is also available in horse. Any type of garment leather will be unsuitable because it is a different kind of tannage.
