identiti66 Report post Posted August 26, 2012 Hi all.. although I do a bit of basic leatherwork my main reason for joining was to ask a question. However.. now I'm here, it could be a good time to start to progress my work a bit. I have swivel knives and needles/thread but haven't invested the time to learn carving or sewing yet. So far I've made leads and collars for my own and a few friends dogs. Mostly functional stuff for hunters running dogs. My tools have been whatever I could get cheap, I've had a couple of knives made for me too (notably a cutting knife (thought I prefer razor blades) and a skiving knife). This is a lurcher 'set' that I made specially for someone.. Struggling with upload sizes, got lots more pics and will share when I have more time to fiddle with my images. bluesman1951 Report post Posted August 26, 2012 Welcome to the site. Why not combine the knife and razor blades in the form of a good knife . Asking questions is a good thing getting good answers is a better thing . I like your work and see you have good taste . You are asking yourself now how does he know that ? First you chose a thick leather for this project that says you care next thats some better than average hardware on your project and that tells be you arent going to settle for okay or getting by . So from that I conclude your work and its quality matter to you greatly . My compliments ! Look forward to seeing more Hi all.. although I do a bit of basic leatherwork my main reason for joining was to ask a question. identiti66 Report post Posted August 26, 2012 Thanks bluesman, appreciate the comments.. Have resized some images so can show a few more bits now (my edge burnishing can be a bit erratic, especially when I run out of tragacanth.. I normally end up with beeswax and a piece of denim, frantically rubbing to get a nice shine).. I prefer to work with quality brass fittings but sometimes use stainless steel. Only reverting to nickel plated if absolutely necessary It's getting harder to get decent leather now because the price of hide has gone up a heck of a lot in the last couple of years so when I get back to it I'll just buy ready cut straps, whereas before I used to get large offcuts for 1/3 the price they are now.
