Members Helsing Posted November 15, 2012 Members Report Posted November 15, 2012 The type of leather that is not tanned completely through but has a thin layer of rawhide in the center. It is stiffer and often used for knife sheaths. What is it called in English and German and is it as good for carving as completely tanned leather? /Helsing Quote
Members ChuckBurrows Posted November 15, 2012 Members Report Posted November 15, 2012 It is known as half tan in English and based on the sheaths I;ve seen carving is not a problem. Brisa sells it. https://www.brisa.fi/portal/index.php?option=com_oscommerce&osMod=index&cPath=93_66 Quote
Members Habicht Posted November 15, 2012 Members Report Posted November 15, 2012 I think in Germany it is called "Walkleder". Max Quote
Members Helsing Posted November 15, 2012 Author Members Report Posted November 15, 2012 Thank you very much! I was looking to buy leather on ebay.de but all they had was "rindleder" which i mistook for being this half tan. It turns out that "rind" means beef! Quote
