entiendo Report post Posted August 12, 2008 Thanks guys. I cut and bevel my own string, it's kangaroo. It's 8 plait 3/32 with a 1/8" core. My pineapple knot speed is improving. They used to take me well over an hour to do and then tighten, but I think I've shaved quite a bit of time off that. For me it's more about the knots than it is the plaiting. I love to do the knots and want to improve the look of my knots with each one. Fixing the breaks took me much more time than the knots. I should have just started over. What's a boot, and what is its purpose? I'm assuming you don't mean the kind you wear. To my defense, I'm very new to braiding. Oh, and I don't sew...I can sew on a button but that's about it. KnotHead Report post Posted August 13, 2008 A boot acts as the cushion between the buckle and the braided loop you have. It cuts out the wear and tear between the leash and the buckle and keeps the braid looking fresh and not marred, or discolored by the buckles metal as it gets used. rawhide1 Report post Posted August 13, 2008 entiendo Just as knothead said it keeps the snap from wearing through your braid and ruining all your hard work. All ya need is a small scrap of the roo ya made your strings from. Ya'll want to cut it just smaller than the dia. of the braid and just long enough to cover the bottom of your loop with a little coming up each side. Once ya have the piece cut fold it in half and cut the ends at a slight angle. Then punch a couple of small holes the length of the boot on both sides so that the holes are striaght across from each other. Then take and lace it together. These directions are probably as clear as mud. So maybe someone can explain it better. Or ya can find a picture of a reata and look at the boot (burner) that is on the honda. entiendo Report post Posted August 13, 2008 (edited) I think I get it, but visuals always help. This is just a show leash so I don't think she wants any extra leather on it. I took it to her today though and she loves it. She now wants a short goat leash for showing goats. Maybe I should make it out of that goat hide I have...
