Is There Any Glue Or Adhesive That Works On Oiled Leather?

Recommended Posts

I suspect there is not anything that will allow me to glue some oiled leather on to veg tan but thought I would ask those with experience.

Is stitching, lacing or some sort of rivet going to be the only options?

i used weldwood contact cement, you might have to coat the oil tanned piece twice, but i got it to work for a bag i did as well as a lining on a guitar strap..

The times i have done it. The piece stayed long enough for me to sew it. But if you just want the glue to hold it i don't think it will happen.

first roughing up the surface then apply neoprene adhesive , of course you have to maintain allowance while rough with emery paper .

If I can get it to hold long enough to sew I'll be pleased. I think I still have some neoprene adhesive for my wet suit if it hasn't dried out. I'll try that and the weldwood on some test peices. Thank you all!

SailRite's HH-66 vinyl glue works GREAT and has the added benefit of an even shorter setup time compared to other contact cements like Barge. You can do it with Barge, but you'll need a couple of coats and to play around with your timing.
