royalscot Report post Posted December 9, 2012 Hello all, As the title states I am interested in learning how to make 1812 military style brogans. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any inforamtion at all pertaining to this on the internet or any forums I frequent. I have been trying for sometime now to get my hands on some last or old patterns to even try and figure it out for myself but to no avail. Anyone with ANY information or guidance on this subject that would be willing to point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance Jeff
Doug Strong Report post Posted December 15, 2012 I have made hundreds of pairs of medieval and renaissance shoes and boots. If you can provide me with some pics of the finished boot I can probably help you get started in learning to make them. you can email me at doug-strong(at)comcast.net
Brewerkel Report post Posted December 23, 2012 (edited) There is plenty of info out there once you start searching 1812 sutler offerings. The term brogan is more commonly used for American Civil War re-enactment boots. That may be why you are having trouble. A solidly constructed shoe, usually buckled is appropriate for British and Canadian troops. Some low ankle boots were also made and issued in Canada. Finding patterns... well good luck. Unless you have the tools to make lasted footwear or want to learn to do that, you can buy well built shoes cheaper than the tools to make them. If you are that dedicated though, I strongly recommend a trip to the Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto. Edited December 23, 2012 by Brewerkel
