denisa Report post Posted January 30, 2013 Hello all, I enjoy spending time on this forum, and I did learn a lot in the past couple of months since I joined, but sometimes I come across some things I am having a hard time finding an answer for. I want to make a wallet, my first wallet, and I really like how the slots on this wallet seems to be punched, but I am wondering what is that tool called. I know there is a pippin hole punch, or button hole punch, but this seems to be way longer. Any help will be appreciated.! Thanks!
Beaverslayer Report post Posted January 30, 2013 denisa, Those are not punched with a specific style punch, they are made by punching a round hole at each end of the slit, then using a sharp knife and straight edge cut between the two round holes. denisa Report post Posted January 30, 2013 Thank you Beaverslayer! I was twisting and turning about that one, wondering if there is a special tool for it! Thank you again
simontuntelder Report post Posted January 30, 2013 I saw a quite famous South Korean leatherworker (his name escapes me right now) who had a bunch of different leather tools made. Among others he had some punches made that you could punch out these slots with in different forms. It was basically a chisel with two hole punches in each end. Very useful tool if you're doing a bunch of these. But if you're only doing one or two, the aforementioned method would work just fine.
