LouieL Report post Posted May 6, 2013 Hi again guys, So I was browsing eBay/web for a new flask, and came across this the flask pictured. (It's very expensive, by the way.) Now looking at it, they wrapped the glass flask in leather without- from what I can see- any form of stitching or otherwise. Any insights into how this is done? Thanks! mlapaglia Report post Posted May 7, 2013 It looks like its done it 3 pieces and they were probably stretched first while wet, cut to size glued on the flask, top and bottom first then the body. Im betting all the edges were beveled to fit better. It probaby shrunk some while it dried then it was given a gloss finish. Glue alone can hold leather in this case as there really isnt any great stress on the leather.
penguineer Report post Posted May 7, 2013 Nicely done - looks like all the edges were skived right down (as in paper-thin at the end) so they meet up nicely. It's an irregular object and rounded surfaces, so as long as you've skived down properly there won't be any edge or extra thickness to feel where they overlap. Cheers!
