gtrscarz Report post Posted May 9, 2013 I am new to leather crafting and looking for resources for design templates to work on my skills. Is it more common to buy designs or create your own? Any info is greatly appreciated. thanks mike
dirtclod Report post Posted May 9, 2013 Do you want designs to tool by or designs / patterns to make something with ? If you something to tool by draw them yourself if you can draw. If you can't draw type in line art for say butterfly's you will get pages and pages of designs or you can buy them from Tandy and other places. If you want patterns to make something you can buy them from Tandy, Springfield Leather, Zack White and several more places or make your own, that's what i would suggest. Get some poster board and take off and create your own patterns.
Lolligagger Report post Posted May 9, 2013 Cardboard is great for mock-ups. Do your best to measure and mark some cardboard with the design you want, then do a little cut and paste. If you find a mistake, you can breath easy that it is only cardboard. This is what many custom metal fabrication professionals do. It prevents waste and gives you a feel for pattern design. For professional tips you could perhaps look into a library for books on fabric pattern making. I'm sure the skills are similar.
