Strap Pattern

Hi all.....newbie here. I have been lurking for a few hours now, I really like the helpful atmosphere here. Hope I won't irritate you too much with my newbie questions.

I have not done any leatherwork in over 40 yrs. I recently have taken up electric guitar (bucket list) and I have this idea in my head for a 3" guitar strap. I have been on the net for a couple of days looking at various straps. I see 2 types....1 with the adjustment slots on the strap (which I don't care for) and 1 with the use of belt buckles for the length adjustment (this is what I prefer).

I have reviewed the 11 pages of guitar strap forum,I found the pattern for the "slot adjustment" type of strap, but I prefer the "buckle adjustment" type.

I have watched the videos from Brookwood Leather (wonderful work) and this is the design that I would like to build.

my question is this.....

can anyone provide a pattern with diminisions or a link, for this type of strap...?

I make a similar strap to the one in Brookwood videos. Basically I start with the hole to hole pin measurements and then work backwards. My min strap is 44"-47" depending on the customer. I add the other straps to give me the pin to pin with a 4" adjustment up or down 2" in either direction. Hope this helps.

basically that. Start with your length on a posterboard template. Cut off the length that you'd like to use for the buckle end, then figure out the length you need for the rest just like a belt. That's essentially what you're making, a belt with disconnected ends.

I just bought a template from Black River Laser. Takes the guess work out of it and they even have a YouTube tutorial to help you along. Very reasonable and great people to work with. They are also members here.

just use those:9 or the buckle strap just make a strap and add a buckle:) A gift from me to the community:)

If it's good enough for Merle its good enough for us! I just personally prefer my ends a little wider than his.
