tx4wheeler Report post Posted October 1, 2013 (edited) Hello, I am new to leather work and have no experience in saddle making but I want to attend a saddle making school to learn how to make saddles. At this point I don't have plans to become a professional saddle maker for a living, but I would like to have the ability to make a few saddles a year as a hobby. I would be using my GI bill benefits to cover the tuition. There are only two saddle school's that accept the GI Bill. They are: Pete's Custom Saddlery in Kentucky (Pete Harry), and Montana Horseman Saddle Building School in Montana (Dale Moore). I have e-mailed with both of them and looked at all of the reviews which are all great. I'm trying to decide which school to go to. featherston Report post Posted October 2, 2013 I just finished attending the school with Dale Moore. I can not say enough good things about him, his family and the school to do it justice. You will finish the school and you will have surpassed your expectations not matter the level of your experience when you first walked thru the door. Feel fee to PM me if you have any questions . George B Report post Posted October 2, 2013 I have to second Dale Moore's school, Montana Horseman Saddle School. Did it in 2010 and was amazed he could teach me, a total novice to build western saddles. Unfortunately I turned to the dark side of leatherworking. I do mainly gun leather now with the occasional saddle thrown in for practice. There are probably a lot of excellent teachers out there, but, everything Dale offered made it the choice for me. As stated above, if you have any questions, let me know as well. I cannot say enough great things about Dale, his family, the accommodations, the school and the experience.
