Members ckrumm1958 Posted October 14, 2013 Members Report Posted October 14, 2013 Can you help me to determine age and estimated value - tree is solid - and saddle was given to me used - in 1979. I was told at that time the person that gave it to me had used it in 4H - 20 years earlier - and it was used when she got it. I have been told that Textan had a fire that destroyed earlier files. Originally I was told it was a Bully Good - (is that correct - is there such a model?) I have sent them a request for information - but have yet to receive a reply. The stamp behind the cantle looks like this: 1079 557-38482 Quote
Members tnawrot2 Posted October 14, 2013 Members Report Posted October 14, 2013 The numbers you posted are of great help, they tell the whole story. The first set of numbers is the model number, the second set is the month and year it was made, and the last set is the serial number. In the 60's they moved the numbers from back of the cantle to the inside stirrup leather near the stirrup. So your saddle was made in May of 1957. I would value the saddle as $200.00. It going to cost $75.00 - $100.00 for a complete cleaning and oil. Another $200.00 for relining, and hope the stirrup leathers don't need replacing. So you might have $500.00 in the saddle and it might be worth $600.00 after repairs. Before you do anything make sure the leather is not hard and cracked. Quote
Members Saddlebag Posted December 14, 2013 Members Report Posted December 14, 2013 One doesn't see an elephant ear cantle very often which confirms it's age. Quote
