Members GaryWGraley Posted March 31, 2014 Members Report Posted March 31, 2014 Well, it's been very cold this year I signed up a while ago but travel an stuff gets in the way so haven't been around here much, hope to change that this year. Some may remember me, my leather work is focused on folding knife sheaths, hand sewn. I've done fixed blades but have decided to give that a rest and stick with what I like to do more. Right now, I'm recuperating from a broken ankle, short sad tale is I was carrying the last of 5 bundles of 90 pound roofing shingles when the ice on the path I was walking gave way, trapped my foot and as my right foot slide my left folded up to the outside of my leg, a right smart pain that was! So, for probably another 6 weeks I'll be mending, can't get around much and need to keep the leg elevated which makes sitting at a table a bit awkward. But I'll see you folks round about! G2 Quote
Members leatherjo Posted April 3, 2014 Members Report Posted April 3, 2014 Hi Gary! My husband and I will be moving to the Philadelphia area next year. Have you ever tried those shoes with spikes in them to get around in the ice? I'm planning on getting some, but I wonder how well they work. I sure don't want to be laid up with a broken ankle!! Any way are you able to do any leatherwork while you are laid up? A reacher might help you get to things. I use one all the time to reach things high above me. Hope to meet you in person some day. Members GaryWGraley Posted April 3, 2014 Author Members Report Posted April 3, 2014 Thanks for the greets folks ! I've not tried any spiked boots, in this case it wouldn't have helped since the ice broke and I basically fell the few inches down to the ground and the edge where the ice broke trapped my left foot, if ONLY I had just slipped haha, that might not have ended so badly, just that the day was warming and so there was some melting and the weight of that 90 pound bundle, plus my weight, put over 300 pounds down when I set my left foot, one time too many or just in the wrong spot Leather is off for a while, to much with the leg to keep it happy in the right position, tuff to sleep even. Moving to Philly, nice, outskirts are pretty nice places, I'm a ways north of you, straight up close to the NY border near to Elmira NY so we're not too close and I don't get around much BUT there is or was a leather thingy near Reading PA which isn't too far that you might want to check into, lots of mfg people put on a leather and goods/tools/hides kinda show right there in a big fairground place. Members leatherjo Posted April 4, 2014 Members Report Posted April 4, 2014 Thanks for the info about the show in Reading. I'll look it up. I've heard that Tioga county, near you, used to be a big tanning center -- but I had not heard anything about a show in Reading. Hope they still have it. Hope you feel better soon! Quote
