I got a box of scrap veg tan leather the other day. I needed it to practice with. In the box was some what looks like 7-8 oz black veg tanned leather. The only problem is that it is tougher than anything I have ever seen. I can barely cut through it with a freshly sharpened knife. I have had 14 oz cut way easier.

Is this possibly packed leather? I have read in old books that the shoe industry used to pack leather with fillers and then compress it in order to create a better sole leather out of inferior leather. Is there a product like that being made today? Is it possible that I have something like that and what is it called if I do?
