Members DavidL Posted May 9, 2014 Members Report Posted May 9, 2014 (edited) My dies I don't use a press for and hammer them in hard on vegtan. Should I buy a press for these dies or can they take the pressure of the hammering. Im using a professionally cutting board from springfieldleather. It looks like its cut out of a larger material and not branded. It does work well. Unsure if it is the same as other cutting boards. - The die can It take hard hits from the hammer and not dull the cutting edge faster than a press?- It takes 20 hits to get a whole piece out. It looks like it will dull after a hundred from the hammering and a thousand for a press. Am I correct to assume this or does the edge hold up if the cutting board has a piece of cardboard or foam beneath the cutting edge. Edited May 9, 2014 by DavidL Quote
Members Tex Shooter Posted May 10, 2014 Members Report Posted May 10, 2014 I can not talk about a hammer die, but I have a Texas Custom Die that has cut thousands of parts and is still sharp. I use it on a Lucris press. -- Tex Quote Tex-Shooter - Winner of the 2003and 2004 Summer Nationals Slingshot Tournament. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Too soon old/too late smart -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “It is better to remain silent and thought a fool, than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt” Abraham Lincoln -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My YouTube Channel ----- slingshotbill's channel - YouTube
