DavidL Report post Posted May 21, 2014 Im thinking of getting 150 sq of HO from a retailer that I will be getting other leathers from. My concern is that the leather is a year old and is old stock of leather and won't be as good as straight from the manufacturer. On average how long does it take till leather starts to get dry and unpleasant. I will consider buying straight from the manufacture to get new stock of leather, unless the leather thats a year old will react the same to dye and has no disadvantage compared to the brand new stock. cem Report post Posted May 22, 2014 I'm not sure if you realise or not the leather you get from the tannery directly is already months old, veg tanning isn't a quick process and isn't as new as you think it might be. I've worked with leather that was twenty years old and there was nothing wrong with it, the main things to do is to keep it out of the light and make sure it doesn't get damp so it can go moldy.
