Mrs Ogre Report post Posted January 13, 2015 Hello all! I've been making leather goods with my husband now for about 6 months and I am well and truly smitten with all kinds of leather craft. I have only just started carving and tooling leather, and I know I have a long way to go. We run our business from home on the side as a hobby, and we have our own Facebook page and Etsy shop. Here are some of my items, would appreciate feedback! Glad to be part of this community ^_^

Mrs Ogre Report post Posted January 21, 2015 Hi and welcome. did you make the Bombard ?? No we didn't, we just make standard 1 and 2 pint tankards like this. What's this Bombard? Sounds great!
Pkay Report post Posted January 21, 2015 A bombard is a leather Jug that the beer comes in before you pour it into the tankards. The most difficult part I found was to seal the inside. I did find a recipe from the 1800's it included how to make leather black naturally !!.
Mrs Ogre Report post Posted February 10, 2015 Ah yes I know the one. It's next on our list, but we currently just make standard tankards of 1 pint, 2 pint and also 3 pints!
Pkay Report post Posted February 12, 2015 I found the problem was what you lined them with, I then looked for and found an 1800's recipe but wondered what you are using. ??

Mrs Ogre Report post Posted February 13, 2015 Thanks King's X! Pkay - we use beesewax to seal the inside, then we paint a thin layer of beeswax on the outside of the mug too so that it's 100% water-tight. We used to use brewer's pitch, but it's a nightmare to use and cracks over time, so usually needs re-sealing.
Pkay Report post Posted February 15, 2015 Thanks for sharing that. I have spent a lot of time looking for a sealant that is not toxic.
Mrs Ogre Report post Posted February 16, 2015 No problem, beesewax is a really great thing to use, and gives a great taste to beers and ales in the tankards!

Currently I wax our tankards by submersion in a large double boiler filled with 6-8kg of hot/liquid beeswax. I'll be making some bombards in the not to distant future as a commission. I'm still considering using brewers pitch for certain projects. This will almost certainly be a pitch/beeswax mixture to reduce the brittle nature.
