TwinOaks Report post Posted January 26, 2015 If the seller can't give any better information than that.....or even say "I don't know" (which would at least indicate honesty), *I* would pass on it.
mlapaglia Report post Posted January 26, 2015 I have seen vague references to Oil tanning vs water tanning. So its possible that the reference to water tanning is another way to say Vegetable tanning. But I can not say for sure.

Not all people go into selling there products knowing all about there items,so I give them a chance to find answers I need to know. It is a bit ignorant on the sellers end, but that`s the human race today, well a good percentage, there are people out there who put prohibit be for people, :yes:is this what you would do if you we me. stropping Report post Posted January 27, 2015 The seller said that the water color tanning means that its tanned with plain and visible leather grain ,Now amed with that info could some one please elaborate on this for me,and would the leather being 2.5 mm cow hide being tanned this way be good for punch bag
Avgvstvs Report post Posted January 28, 2015 He might be talking about aniline dyes which, from my understanding, don't have much to do with the tanning itself. I think pretty much any tannage can be aniline dyed - maybe someone can correct me/confirm this? Aniline dyes are basically unpigmented so they leave the grain of the leather completely visible. I really have no idea what type of leather is suitable for a punching bag. As TwinOaks said, if the seller (or the maker) can't give you more knowledgeable/professionnal answers than he does now, you should probably let it slide. stropping Report post Posted January 28, 2015 Thank`s for the heads up I suppose your right guy`s,There are to many sellers these days selling items to day and don`t even know what the hell they have for sale, they just want to make a quick buck .I seen some where a seller has vintage leather punch bags and they are made from 2.5 mm cow hide,But the finish on the bag in question could be a bit smoother,Years a go people had pride in what they did,now you have to pay out the back side to have some thing finished where pride has been shown in the end product,What `s going on in this world of ours? cem Report post Posted January 29, 2015 The one company I know of who makes custom punch bags uses the same leather as those used for baseball gloves, chrome tanned cow leather. Going on the cost of them I expect it might be the stuff from Horween.
