gicts Report post Posted November 15, 2008 Picked a decent sized piece of leather up from Tandy last week, about 4-6 oz. Now that I've got it and worked it, it seems way too plastic-ie and cheap to use on products. I gave a very healthy soaking of Neatsfoot oil to one project with no results. Am I out a pretty penny or is there a way to get a little cushion in a hide? I'd hate to just chalk it up to a learning experience (be very very picky on leather) and be out $90. Trauma Report post Posted November 19, 2008 What do you mean by plastic-y? Does it feel like a decent piece but doesn't tool? Not quite sure what you mean. I'm in Australia so have had no dealings with Tandy, but is there any way to return it? Or is it a case of 'you picked it.. stiff luck.'?
gicts Report post Posted November 20, 2008 it does seem fairly cheap. Its compressed, and not very soft. By plastic, it almost seems like the top layer (epidermis?) is rigid, plastic like, and doesn't cut but rather tares. When I try to bevel the edges, on occasion it nearly tares like paper or cardboard. I think I'll be able to get away with using it on the back of projects, but certainly nothing else
