inn3rs3lf Report post Posted April 10, 2015 So as per title, this is my first piece I have attempted. I got into this due to my wanting a card wallet, so I decided to just make one CC please!! From what I can tell: 1) Stitching needs work as I don't know how to end off a run properly, so it's just find a hole and cut. 2) My corners are not universal, and some aren't even properly done. I used a ring as my form, but it kept on moving, so I just went with my eyes. I need a decent blade as well, this stanley knife is just not cutting it, to be blunt Thoroughly enjoyed making it! Will take my time with the next one when I have the proper tools.

OdinUK Report post Posted April 12, 2015 For the rounded corners I use a circle stencil with several size holes or circles to mark around. You could also try getting a 2nd hand round punch and grinding 3/4 of it away leaving you with a quarter circle cutting edge. A good first go, but as you hone each skill you will find your work drammatically improve. Also ypu might want to consider a stitching grover so that the stitches are flush with the leather surface. You should see my first attempts at anything! I keep them all to see how I progress
TwinOaks Report post Posted April 12, 2015 To finish off hand stitching, I backstitch in the same holes 2.5 stitches. The half stitch is so that both threads are on the same side of the leather. Once that's been done, pull a little bit tighter on the stitch and cut it close to the leather. That little bit of extra tension will cause the cut end of the thread to pull back into the hole, or at least lie flush with it.
BillB Report post Posted April 14, 2015 Nice first project. We all have had our "first" project, some of us have had more then one. You have already gotten good advice from TwinOaks, so there is no need to add anything there. Have you decided on the type of finish you will use on the leather? I tend to use Carnauba Crème to protect from stains and dirt and then let the leather age and color naturally from use.
