Not sure if this is the right place to post or not, but if not, please move.

Want to get a drill press to be able to attach a sanding drum to in order to help smooth edges as well as (maybe) burnishing. Also, want to get a benchtop grinder for the same purpose.

Question(s):

1) what should I be looking at in terms of RPMs for the tools?

2) for those of you that have both, are both necessary, or am I just wasting money and can accomplish each task on either?

There have been many discussions of the many many available strategies for putting grinders, drill presses, lathes, motors/arbors, etc. to use to sand and burnish edges.

From your 2 thoughts above, just for smoothing and burnishing, I'd choose the benchtop grinder. I bought a drill press prior to my stitching machine and it was awesome to get the holes drilled evenly for hand stitching thick leather (too tough to use an awl for me). I couldn't see a nice, easy way for me to use it to smooth and burnish due to the vertical angle. I'd prefer the horizontal for smoothing and burnishing. Just my .02.
