SOS to all the Aussies out there

I am getting ready to start my first project now that I have everything unpacked and set up in my new home here in Australia.

I went to the store to buy a can of rubber cement... only to leave every store in town disappointed and leave the shopkeeper shaking his/her head and probably muttering something about that Yank that's always asking for the dumbest things.

In the States I used ordinary common rubber cement to hold the leather to poster board to keep it from stretching while carving & tooling.

What do you use here? What should I be asking for?

I think the recipe for rubber cement is a hand full of the tan rubber bands disolved in acetone. Acetone is available as cheap, unscented fingernail polish remover.

acetone may be called something else, perhaps ethyl acetate.

You might ask for name brands of alternative products: Marabu-Fixogum or Platignum Studio Gum

It appears that Birdsall's carry a rubber cement called K Brand Glue, you should try them. They are in Botany Bay, Sydney.

Hi, I used to use rubber cement and card board, too.....but a friend shared his use of using the cheapest shelf/contact adhesive paper with me. I was suspect but tried it and it works very well and I don't use the cement/cardboard method any more. David
