jlanning215 Report post Posted August 12, 2015 Hey Everyone, Ive been asked to make a 11/2 foot by 6 1/2 foot long table cover that can be placed on the table top securely and removed when not wanted. It will go on top of a stainless steel table. I have a few questions and hoping to get some advice: 1. Any ideas on how to make this table top stay secured in one place while on the table top? I don't want it slipping this way or that. I was wondering about using magnets somehow. Any thoughts or ideas?? 2. What's the best type of leather (Thickness, finish, veg vs chrome vs oil)? I want the table top to feel heavy and have quality to it. Durability is a must. I want leather that can take some wear and tear but be buffed and polished to made to look new again. And I want the leather to be highly water resistant if not, water proof. I would also like the leather to be subtle enough that it can be rolled up and store away when not on the table top. That should do it. I'd appreciate any help i can get. Thanks
gmace99 Report post Posted August 12, 2015 Attach a piece of thin rubber to the underside of the leather. You can buy it in most camping shops
byggyns Report post Posted August 12, 2015 Magnets do not function extremely well with stainless steel. They don't hold on as well as with carbon or mild steel. Depending on the stainless alloy, they sometimes don't hang on much at all. I would agree that rubber is the way to go - perhaps a thin shoe sole material. I'd go with a chrome tanned or oil tanned leather.
