artwithapulse Report post Posted January 7, 2016 Hi guys. I'm looking at buying this model hand-crank splitter (in an old sea-green colour, all steel construction) - it's $1350 Australian, so a large expense. I want to split, at maximum, 5.7" wide firm harness leather 10-11oz down to 5/6. Is this going to happen, or is this dreaming? It's the absolute widest I'll split, so isn't a *massive* deal if it can't handle something that wide with a 6" blade. Most everything else is wallet pieces. Thankyou! stevieboy7 Report post Posted January 16, 2016 As with most splitters, you're really only going to get 75% of the blade width at max.If you try splitting something that large, your going to run into a few problems with binding if the piece turns at all while feeding,as well, your blade needs to be stupid sharp and perfect everywhere to work that perfectly. It's not impossible, but I wouldn't expect to get constant results/repeatability at any constant rate.
