Members Mike Dull Posted January 9, 2016 Members Report Posted January 9, 2016 Newbie question. The swivel knife that came with my tool set is pretty dull. What grit whetstone should I use to give it a stropable edge? I have an old double sided stone but I think it might be a bit rough. Thanks. Quote
Chief31794 Posted January 9, 2016 Report Posted January 9, 2016 I use ceramic stones, the fine is 1000 grit, not sure what the medium is around 600 I think, I also use a Big Red sharpening jig to make sure the blade is sharpened on a 30 degree angle on each side. The ceramic stones are well worth the money. Chief Quote "Life's too short to carry ugly leather"
King's X Posted January 9, 2016 Report Posted January 9, 2016 I would run it through the finer side of your stone. After, I would strop it on leather with white rouge and move onto green rough before using it. Make sure to wipe the tip of blade before using to prevent from transferring any rouge to your wet leather. Make sure your strokes on the stone and rough board are even on both sides.
