nevadabob Report post Posted February 21, 2016 New to all of this and am slowly procuring tools to make a leather holster. My question is....I'll be using either 8 oz or 9/10 oz product. What mm size thread should I use? Bought some 1mm thread off of ebay, will this be OK?
Troy I Report post Posted February 22, 2016 1MM will work just fine...that is the size I use on all my stuff that is in the 8/10 oz leather weight class, sewn togeather, so I guess that would make it 16/20 oz weight class. A lot of what size of thread has to due with what you are making. If your product has a lot of pulling force on it, I would go up in size accordingly...if it is just a holster, key fob, belt...you will be fine with 1MM thread. Also, if it looks nice to you...use it!!!
nevadabob Report post Posted February 22, 2016 Troy...Thanks for the response & info. Nice looking holsters on the ebay site!
Troy I Report post Posted February 22, 2016 The holsters on the ebay site are all sewn with #277 thread using a CB4500...I only hand sew for customers who request it and/or where I can't get to with my sewing machine...Thanks for your compliment. By the way #277 is a little smaller than 1mm. (I think)
