If you don't want to use wool barks (the real thing) try to find 100% wool on a synthetic backer. Weaver stocks all manner of these type products. As for glues you can't use saddle paste or any of the other water based products as they will migrate through the backer and can mess you up good. Contact cement works well but can be a real pain if you have to remove it at a later date.. I hope this helps.. Quote
