Members artcab Posted November 19, 2021 Members Report Posted November 19, 2021 Hi All - New to the site and been reading and learning a lot here. I have what I think is an interesting question regarding leather footballs. Does anyone have any experience breaking in brand new Wilson NFL footballs. I have watched and read everything that is available. Common process is (1) Hard Brushing to remove any coating (2) Shaving cream to remove any residual coating and remove dye (3) Condition (4) Apply Mud (5) Wipe off mud I think the main goal is to remove coating, and condition/soften the leather as much as possible - WITHOUT applying anything that would be slick in rainy or wet conditions. During deflategate they applied lexol leather conditioner to soften the balls but Brady said that made the balls slick when wet. Does anyone have any experience with a product that would soften the leather and then also allow it to maintain some level of tack when wet? Thank you all! Quote
