advice on hot foil stamping 1inx1in or 2inx2in stamp

Recommended Posts

hello,

i'm currently working with an excellent leatherworker who has quite a bit of experience, but not so much with hot stamping.

originally the plan was to:

1. stamp the leather

2. dye the imprinted area

3. clearcoat the surrounding areas to ensure the (different) dye would not be affected

but we have learned that the imprints from the stamp are too narrow to accommodate the approach.

i've attached the most recent attempt (the two diagonal stamps on the rightmost-side):

i found this acceptable, but the leatherworker found too difficult to consistently reproduce along a strap.

this is where hot foil stamping crossed my mind. would this technique guarantee that the imprinted portions are fully coloured with a good quality foil?

i was wondering if there is a cost-effective way to hot stamp this pattern without having to buy a machine.

calvin at LW custom works says hot foil stamping this kind of pattern will not be much better than what the picture for the dye, but i am not convinced this is the case (the nerve, i apologise).

isn't hot foiling supposed to guarantee that all impressed areas are fully coloured? i was hopeful hot foiling would be able to do this, no matter how small or thin the impressed areas may be.

any suggestions?
