Pierick Report post Posted December 28, 2021 (edited) Hello, I have a few rolls of leather, whole cow hides of thickness around 1.6mm and bought from surplus for private jets upholstery. I don't know why some of the hides have weird marks as you can see in my picture. I guess it wasn't stored in good enough conditions. Could someone give me some possible explanations of the why it became like this and mostly if I can do something to improve this? (my finger is to give an idea about the dimensions of the marks) (I sprayed water on the back of the leather and it seems to improve it, maybe at the point to remove the marks. Is it a bad idea to do that?) Thank you! Pierick Edited December 29, 2021 by Pierick
Pierick Report post Posted December 28, 2021 Just in case it could help, here is the label at the back of the hide.
Pierick Report post Posted December 28, 2021 Here is a picture of the back when wet following my water spraying. We can clearly see two wide lines (indicated by the 2 red arrows). On the front side of these 2 lines, the leather is smooth and aside of these lines the leather has marks as shown in my first picture. And the lines are accordingly with how the hide was rolled. My guess is where the leather is smooth, it stays wet way longer than where the leather is marked. So is my leather dried where the marks are?
