Those are quite beautiful. I made my first pair and I love them but being made out of veg tan leather they are quite stiff.

What leather do you use and what sort of process or treatment of the leather? (obviously not veg tan ...)

Do you have any recommendations on how to make my veg tan more supple and less stiff?

Hi Ebdavison,

Thanks for the thumbs up on my work. I make these moccasins from castings of my customers feet.

I only use buffalo or bull hide (color dependent) for the main body and some deer and elk for trim work.

All of this leather is very soft and supple and feels great on your feet , almost like a leather sock. I use Montana pitch blend and pure mink oil to condition and make weather resistant. As far as veg tan, it depends on the weight of leather used, not sure what to tell you about softening. Probably mink oil and a lot of breaking in. I use veg tan in my mask making ventures as I want them to be firm and hold up to wear.

I should be posting another 10 pair next week or so on here, so keep an eye out for more to come .

Kenny
