Hi all, I am new here, this is my first post in this forum actually, found this forum really fascinating for so many amazing leather works u guys done.

Anyway, I made a backpack, which i quite like the look. but unfortunately i think i used the wrong leather combination. the leather i used for the main part is too soft while the other parts (like the straps) is harder than the body, thus the backpack can't hold up a shape at all.

It has some problems here

1. can i fix it by any method ?? or just give it up and make another one?

2. i want to know what type of leather to use for different function, is there any websites or etc can refer?? because i had this problem for my another project before.

like what thickness should do for bags or what type of leather to use.

thanks

I don't know if there's any way to firm it up too much. You might try a clear coat that hardens leather like Resolene or Tan Kote. That will have some effect.

Finding the right leather to make bags isn't easy. Chrome tanned is too soft and veg tan is too firm, so what can you do? There's not a lot in the middle that you can buy off the shelf. Commercial products use stiffeners and design tricks to give shape to their chrome tanned products. It's a matter of experience and trial and error.
